Okta came to Maven to find an executive-supporting unicorn. This was in their pre-IPO days, and knowing its ambitious future and the intensity it would present for the executive team, Okta was looking to up-level its executive support function by bringing on not only someone stellar to support Founder and CEO Todd McKinnon, but also to cultivate, train and manage the company’s entire Admin Team.
Enter Tanya Benvenuto. Within 1 month of working on the search, Maven had tapped its network to find and place Tanya in this highly specialized and nuanced role. 4+ years later, this epic partnership continues to flourish and evolve, with Tanya now working alongside Todd and the Chief of Staff on major projects affecting the entire company, as well as continuing to be Todd’s right-hand.
I would not be the leader I am without Tanya’s support. She empowers everyone around her to do their best work, embodies Okta’s core values, and plays an integral role in the success of our organization. Not only is she dedicated and loyal, but she also sees challenges as opportunities and is ultimately committed to helping Okta achieve our vision of enabling any organization to use any technology.
When Maven reached out to me about the role at Okta, I was initially hesitant because I was already well underway in discussions with another company. That said, the way the Maven team depicted growth possibilities at Okta was too tempting to pass up! I’ve had the opportunity to build our admin team and elevate the standards of executive support within Okta, plan for our IPO and ring the bell on the floor of Nasdaq, and meet President Obama at Okta’s annual Oktane Conference — all while working with the most supportive and inspiring leader of my career. I can honestly say this has been the opportunity of a lifetime!
